And they still claim to have the moral high ground...gosh, if only they'd just prove it.

The 2006 elections may be an important step in TRULY protecting our country. We are not safe.

Do not confused not being attacked with being safe. We are certainly not safe. Keep in mind, a 10 year-old can set a bomb off in a crowded place if he wanted to...so certainly a terrorist could. Don't be naive.

We are NOT safe. What we see today is a product of terrorist strategy. Don't be fooled -- they are VERY intelligent people. They don't blow themselves up for no purpose. They have a purpose.

In Iraq, today, what we see a very clear mission. It's clear because we, ourselves, undertook it 20 years ago when we took down the USSR. We bled them dry via the conflict in Afghanistan.

The terrorists are doing that to us, today -- in Iraq. America won't last forever. Don't think otherwise. There have been superpowers before us, and there will be superpowers after us.

Nothing is forever.

But we can do something about it. Vote. Vote against the unchecked power of the Bush Administration. They cannot keep us safe.

Think they can do the job? Think again.

They were weak on terrorism then, and they are completely incompetent with it now.

Man it's fun to not be burdened by a half-dozen books waiting to be read. When I'm done with this, I can go shopping again. ;-)

1 Minute, 30 Seconds!

I just did it! I solved a Rubik's Cube in 1:30!! Not only my new record, it shatters the 2-minute mark which has been my goal for 2006!

Soooooooooo happy! What a great start to the weekend! :-)

Iraq For Sale!

Last night, Linn, Vincen, Michele, and I went to see the premier of Iraq For Sale, the newest documentary from Robert Greenwald.

It was a pretty good documentary, but not nearly the best I've seen. Anyone who's seen Why We Fight knows that it was primarily about the profit of war...and it was a LOT better than this similar one. The first half of Iraq For Sale was a little slow, especially in that the content was stuff we're al familiar with (OMG KBR makes a profit!).

The second half realy picked up and we gained a lot of insight into what was really going on. The most surprising was video of the "chow line". A line of soldiers that looked a quarter of a mile long! Soldiers wait OVER AN HOUR on line! The reason? KBR doesn't want to go to a 24/7 food availability system because they don't profit as much from it as a 3-times-a-day system. Ridiculous!

The best part was hearing everyone in the audience, as if rehearsed, *hiss* when Rick Santorum was on the screen. :-D

There was also a lot of in-depth interviews with people who've contracted and soldiers.

The highlights of the evening were that Gary Hart, a former Colorado Senator and Presidential candidate, gave a little speech before the movie and had a lot of interesting things to say. He talked about how he foresaw this result of the war, and was laughed at. Now he laughts at himself, because he UNDERESTIMATED it! He talked about how we never consider casualties, only KIA. And he talked about his new book, "The Courage of Our Convictions".

Robert Greenwald also spoke, accentuating his need for us to buy up the DVD's and screen them at house parties. I didn't get one, though, because I just didn't like the movie so much. (I'd rather have people over to see Why We Fight, honestly.)

Progress Now also showed a 5-minute mini-doc, based on the movie, called "Beauprez For Sale". He's the only congressman to receive money from ALL FIVE of the big government contractors! (Titan, Halliburton, KBR, and the others...)

Hilarious!

Aside from the movie, we had dinner at Goodfriends (nachos, baby!) and also stopped by Bill Ritter campaign headquarters to pick up yard signs and bumper stickers.

My Bill Winter yard sign now has a friend. ;-)

DDR Night III

DDR Night last night...there were about 10 of us. Things were a lot more free-form has we didn't have a formal tournament, and there was some other gaming going on. :-)

Mobat came sans Athena, but with his friend Kelly. Just one n00b. He did well!

The full list of partycomers were Me, Michele, Vincen, Patricia, Andy, Corinne, Mobat, Kelly, Linn, and Sean.

Damon, where were ya??? :-)

Michele baked cookies while the games were going on...since she couldn't dance -- though she did manage to dance to two of her favorites. There were also some Mario Kart DS games going because, for the first time ever for us, we had FIVE DS systems in the house! (Mobat, Kelly, Sean, Michele, and me.)

There was so much food: chips and salsa, fritos and dip, Patricia brought along fresh-baked banana bread, and of course the cookies. Prolly didn't help that four of us had Qdoba before the start -- but we needed dinner. :-)

As the night rolled to an end, we put the DDR away and played some 4-player Super Mario Strikers. Soccer game. Andy and I teamed up against Michele and Sean. Great fun...can't wait for the Wii version when we can go on the Internet!!!!!

I've posted some pics below. But now, it is time to devote my mental energies to the Denver Broncos and my fantasy football team! :-)

DDR Party Time!! Some Notes...

DDR Party Night III tonight! And just making the last minute preparations. But, first, we must remind ourselves how to hold a proper DDR Party. Let's consult the image above:

1. We must make sure we don't have a 1970's carpet in the playing area.
   
2. We must not do the ghetto DDR thing and tape cheap-ass $20 pads to a piece of plywood. Some DDR players swear by this -- they are also to cheap to buy a quality $50 DDR mat.
   
3. Be sure the TV is not a good 2-3 feet below the player's line of vision. It's called neck injury people.
   
4. Dress appropriately. A long-sleeve sweater or a nice, silk shirt are not really advised for this often-times sweat-inducing game. (Even the guy sitting down has a collared shirt, what the deuce??)
   
5. Do not hold a DDR party during the daytime. Do people go to dance clubs in the afternoon -- hell no.
   

The snacks are out, the drinks are chilled, the DDR revelers will soon be on their way. Suh-weet.

Gonna do some yard sign distribution for Bill Winter again before the party. Getting everything out of the way so the Yog and I can relax tomorrow and watch the Broncos plays the Chiefs.

My apologies to my kitties who need a clean litterbox, and the lawn which needs mowing. I've been drowing lately. :-)

This past weekend, my time was mucho occupado.

On Friday night, the in-laws treated us to dinner, in exchange for my finding a DVD-RW for my dad's computer and installing it. Took a lot of the evening, and Michele and I had about a couple hours to ourselves that night.

On Saturday, my nephew had his 3rd birthday party. Michele and I lazed in the morning, and then did some Bill Winter yard sign distro -- finishing up some zip codes. The party went several hours, and then Michele and I came home to a rain storm. :-)

On Sunday, we spent the day in Estes Park, at the Scottish Highlands Festival. I missed the Bronco game, but watched my PVR recording of it and it was a bit of a mess. Sloppy play. :-(

...

This week has been worse. The last two nights I've worked the whole dang day: morning, noon, and night. The evenings have been occupied by Net Fuzion. Also, yesterday I went to the pre-natal doctor with Michele. Today, I had my stitches removed.

After I leave work today, I need to do a campaign stop for a guy who asked for Bill Winter bumper stickers.

THEN I have some quick (I hope) work for Net Fuzion and then I CAN REST!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Oh, and DDR tonight. I have to prepared for the big DDR Party this weekend!!!!!!!!!) :-D

Depressing Endings

The end of the week is finally here. The official end of the long push here at work. And I'm tired.

But it's not a happy ending. A lot is going on right now. Gonna make for a depressive weekend, but oh well.

My mom is in the hospital getting a scan for something that's not going to be good. Luckily, I'll be there in November, but I want to be there now. :-(

The future is up in the air on that.

Michele is at the doctor's office right now because of pregnancy concerns. I'm waiting to hear back.

My father-in-law was put under today for a checkup. He'll be OK, but that's never fun.

And then there's other buzzing bad news within the friends and family circle. Bluuuuuuk.

...

Hopefully I'll get some good news today -- cause last night was not a good one.

Fantasy Football III

Yes, those Fuchsia avengers are back!

First, they were the Fuchsia Crush of 2004.

Perhaps, the worst draft in history. The top 3 picks were complete busts. Quentin Griffin exploded in week #1, then never contributed as a Bronco again. Jones and McCairens did NOTHING. Winslow was hurt after the first week!

Oh, and Calico never played. He was already hurt. Pathetic.

My best player was my kicker, Mike Vanderjagt. :-)

Second to worst team in football they were. So, then came year #2...

Enter, the Insane Fuchsia Monkey Riot!

This time, the draft was a little better...but I picked all the wrong players anyway!

With the #10 pick, I went with a QB. Big mistake! granted, it was Peyton Manning, but QB's in the first several rounds are retarded. While Peyton had a good year, I had no running attack.

I was forced to pick a RB in round #2, rather than a top flight WR -- and had to take Corey Dillon, whom I knew would have a bad year.

And he did.

My #3 pick was a disaster. Deshaun Foster wasn't even a starting RB!

The rest of the picks were also dissapointing, but I had some gems. One pick was T.J. Houshmandzadeh, whom I used as trade bait to acquire Stephen Jackson after week 1, a godsend for me!

Second, Willie Parker was a late rounder that turned into a starting RB and worked wonders for me. Awesome.

Ricky Williams was a gamble...and he only saw action in one game for me despite me having him the whole year. Great planning.

But NOW...NOW NOW NOW...introducing, the next step in Monkey Riot. Year 3!

Welcome, the Fuchsia Evolution!

The draft went wonderully today. And whilst I'll likely link to this blog next year and laugh once again, I am more excited about this draft than any other.

I went with the gameplan, after goofing up so much with my QB pick last year. First round -- a running back...and it's Lamont Jordan! He slipped a couple spots, so I got good value with him.

Then, gift of gifts, Clinton Portis! His shoulder injury scared the fantasy owners off, but I could not pass him up with the 15th pick in the draft! If he's healthy, he's basically a #4 pick at #15!

Third round, need a wide receiver. Why not -- Randy Moss!! Then Plaxico Burress! And things look rosy -- albeit some risk involved with Moss (not so much) and Portis (moreso).

But the talent doesn't end there...add a Denver Bronco, which I always love -- and it's Rod Smith to boot!

A solid QB staff in Eli Manning and Trent Green.

A Top 5 Tight End in Chris Cooley.

And the bench looks good, too. Corey Bradford of the Lions could break out this year. Marty Booker will see benefits to be being the #2 in Miami with Daunte Culpepper around...

And I got some handcufing done this year, too! Ladell Betts will be there to backup Clinton Portis.

Oh, and I also got a guy named Deuce McAllister in the 6th round. A gamble? Yes. Can it payoff? Bigtime!

...

Indeed, the summary of this draft is "risk." McAllister, Portis, Moss, LenDale White...they all have some risk. But, if things work out with half of them, things will look rosy for me. I've very excited this year.

Very Sad News

I was very sad to have Michele wake me up this morning to tell me that Steve Irwin had died. He was killed by a stingray that sent a poison stinger directly into his heart. Ironically, stingrays are not nearly the most poisonous animal he's seen, but it got him in the right place. :-(

I guess we all kinda joked that he'd be killed someday. Perhaps we even made wagers on the animal that would do it. Nonetheless, we've all been shocked to hear it.

Steve Irwin may very well be the most loved man in the world. Anyone who didn't like or respect the guy needs their brain checked. He did so much for conservationism and for helping us learn about the most dangerous of animals.

And he did it while making us laugh.

He'll be missed. Still so sad to realize that he's gone -- that quickly.

Awwww, GOD, That Hurts Like a Mofo!!

OK, I survived surgery. ;-)

I had a cyst removed from my scalp. It had appeared for the first time while leaving Las Vegas (can ya hear the song?) a couple months ago.

The removal went AOK, but apparently I don't numb very well...ask my dentist as well...and I felt the stitches. Not pleasant.

So now I'm home, resting, and the side of my head hurts like a mofo.But I'm dealing.

Sorry, Vincen, I can't shower tomorrow morning. I'll wear plenty of CK One for the car, though. :-)
