Goodbye Colorado...?

Michele and I received the call today -- we're moving. The offer we've put down on a new house was accepted, but now the bad news.

It's in South Dakota.

A few months after we started dating, Michele and I visited Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. While we were a little underwhelmed by the monument (it seemed too small), we fell in love with the state.

A couple months ago, she raised the idea of moving to an area with cheaper land. We thought about South Dakota and Maine. I actually was pushing for Canada. :-)

We decided on South Dakota, and did a quick little 3-day road trip there a couple weeks ago. We got to see about 5 houses that day, and Paul (our broker) was great helping us even though we'd never met yet.

We fell in love with a ranch-style, 4-bedroom place in Aberdeen. It's a big lot, and the house is only a few years old. It's $60K cheaper than our house here in Littleton, and the time is right.

So now, we face some short-term hardships. Saying goodbye to friends will be, of course, tough. Also, I'll have to talk to work about either telecommuting, or leaving. Michele will also miss her family very much. :-(

But we won't be too far away. And we'll be able to visit often.
