Bush Teaches Vocabulary

The Moderate Voice - Bush Blasts Amnesty International Report As "Absurd"

"I'm aware of the Amnesty International report, and it's absurd," he said.

President Bush says the allegations about mistreatment have been made by prisoners who hate the United States.

"It seemed like to me they based some of their decisions on the word of, and the allegations by people who were held in detention, people who hate America, people that had been trained in some instances to disassemble - that means not tell the truth," he said.

Thanks for the lesson, Mr. Bush. However, what you meant to say was dissemble. Defined as follows:

dis·sem·ble

1. To disguise or conceal behind a false appearance. See Synonyms at disguise.
2. To make a false show of; feign.

A word I will never forget for the rest of my life. :-) Explaining to a group of WRITERS at a press conference what a word means, when they were confused because you said the wrong one. It's priceless.

UPDATE: A caller on Air America Radio just informed us that "dissemble" was the Dictionary.com word of the day (see here) on Monday, ONE DAY before Bush's speech! This explains why he got it wrong, and purposefully felt the need to tell us what it means -- HE JUST LEARNED IT! HILARIOUS!
